School Board Seeks Committee Members

Volunteers sought for grade point average and graduation honors committee.

The Peters Township Board of Education has begun looking for volunteers to serve on a new grade point average and graduation honors committee.

Board president Diane Ritter said the committee will be comprised of administrators, teachers, board members, students and parents. The committee membership will also be open to parents of students from other schools in the district.

“We want all the stakeholders to be part of the research and discussion, and formulate a recommendation to come back to the (board’s) policy committee,” Ritter said. “The board can then discuss the recommendations and begin the writing of the new policy.”

The committee will meet mid- or late-afternoons at the high school over the next several weeks. Ritter said that the committee will address all issues around a graduation honors program, and that the school board hopes to get a wide variety of input.

“We would like them to discuss the methodology that is used to calculate a student’s grade point average, as well as how we would set the standards of recognition of academic achievement,” Ritter said.

Ritter said that the building administration has been actively seeking members for the new committee with support of the district’s public relations office. The goal of the committee is to have recommendations back to the school board by the end of this school year.

Ritter said that the policy committee will then take the time to implement the recommendations into development for a new policy for the high school.

“I don’t want to put any limitations on the committee because we want to take the time to review their recommendations to us,” Ritter said.

Those interested in serving on the new committee should contact district communications coordinator Shelly Belcher at 724-941-6251 ext. 7205 or belchers@pt-sd.org.
