Three Students Take Home Gold Medal

Three Peters Township students won at the National History Day state-level competition for 'The Revolutionary Electric Guitar.'

Three juniors took home a gold medal at the National History Day state-level competition held in Mechanicsburg, PA this past weekend.

Joshua Bowman, Joshua Larimer and Jason Lee won in the Group Documentary category for their entry, "The Revolutionary Electric Guitar: The Sound That Changed the World."

In their 10-minute documentary, they interviewed big band and rock guitarists, a designer at Fender and the archivist for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, OH.

This is the students' sixth year of competition, and in June they will head to nationals for their third trip to the University of Maryland in six years.

Bowman's mother, Rebecca, said the students' poise blew her away.

"Completely unflustered, they stood before the judges, three strangers, and defended their research and analysis," she said. "The questions are designed to verify their research and challenge their analysis. Their answers demonstrated their depth of knowledge and the way they worked as a team. Several judges commented that their answers in the interviews set them apart."

This week is particularly special for Bowman. He also won first place in the Washington County Bar Association Law Day Essay Competition.
