U Rock to Offer Lessons via Skype

See how U Rock Music Center is bringing traditional music instruction into the 21st century.

Peters’ premiere provider of music instruction is taking things to the next level. Starting Aug. 1, will begin teaching music lessons via Skype, in addition to teaching regular studio lessons.

Owner and instructor Vincent Nemeth said, “We’re always looking for ways to bring traditional music lessons into the 21st century, and this is a great way to do it.”

Nemeth explained that he decided to utilize Skype in instruction because he wanted young students to be able to continue learning from U-Rock even after transitional periods in their lives.

“We’ve had several good full-time students whose parents relocated and some who are away for long periods of time during the summer or who graduated and went on to college,” said Nemeth. “We want those students to know just because you leave town, doesn’t mean you have to leave U Rock.”

Nemeth said that Skype instruction may also be of interest to adult students and new students.

Adults who have busy schedules can probably squeeze a Skype lesson into their schedules more easily than a studio lesson. And, out-of-state students who are interested in learning under any one of U Rock’s renowned instructors will be able to have direct access to their desired instructor despite geographic distance.

According to Nemeth, this type of direct access to qualified instructors is much different than the YouTube lessons that are available online. While YouTube lessons are recorded and general, U Rock’s Skype lessons will be live, interactive and individualized.

Where recording does come into play with Skype is in the ability to record sessions and play them back. This, Nemeth said, gives both student and instructor to opportunity to review each lesson for strengths and weaknesses.

Another advantage that Nemeth pointed out is how Skype’s shared-screen capabilities allow for files to be sent and received almost instantly. As a result, teaching materials can be fully integrated in a snap.

Each classroom at the U Rock studio will have a HD webcam, and all of U Rock’s instructors and courses will be available for Skype lessons.

Instruction via Skype will be offered at a discounted price as compared to studio lessons. To that end, Nemeth stressed, “What can be taught and the value of each lesson is just as high, even though the cost is lower.”
