Cheerleader Car Wash Raises Cold Cash on a Hot Day
Peters Township High School cheerleaders raise money with a car wash.
It was a sunny summer day when the cheerleaders grabbed some buckets and sponges and opened a car wash, right next to the on Valley Brook Road.
The girls, in their cheerleading outfits, hoisted banners above their heads at the crossroads of Valley Brook and East McMurray Road, to convince motorists to stop by for a car wash. They waved and smiled at each car passing by.
A patron getting his car washed also received a freshly squeezed glass of lemonade, as sweet and sunny as the girl’s disposition at the event.

The fundraiser is one of several the cheerleaders will hold this year.
They are also taking donations for corporate sponsorship. Sponsors are encouraged to join the PTHS Cheerleading Booster Club.

For a $150 donation a sponsor can become a platinum member, the sponsor’s name will be displayed on a sign at cheerleading events, recognition as a corporate sponsor in a “thank you” ad placed in the PTHS football program, sold at all home football games, and the company name, logo and information would be printed on the corporate sponsor placemat and given to all attendees at the annual PTHS Cheerleading Pancake Breakfast scheduled for fall 2011.
For $100, a diamond member would get sponsor name displayed at all cheerleading events, and recognition in the PTHS football program.
Chelsea Stockhausen, the head coach and former PTHS cheerleader, said, “The girls are raising money for cheerleading camp up in Slippery Rock.” Stockhausen continued, “At camp, the girls learn cheers, they have icebreaker and bonding activities, and they teach the team about safety, an important aspect of cheerleading.”
Alana Loomis, soon to be a junior at PTHS, said, “We want the big banana.”
The girls are going off to Slippery Rock to compete for a special prize, a big banana. Peters Township High School won the big banana last year and the hope to bring it home this year as well.
In the fall, the cheerleaders will mount their largest fundraiser of the season: a pancake breakfast held at St. Benedict the Abbot Church.
