Concussion Awareness Participation Mandatory for Peters Parents

The preseason informational concussion meeting at Peters Township High School is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 8 at 7:30 p.m.

notified parents and student athletes via email Monday that they are strongly encouraged to attend an upcoming concussion awareness meeting, as well as complete an educational course.

The email read:

As required in Peters Township School District Policy #5143 AR-1, the Peters Township Athletic Department will offer parents and student athletes a preseason informational meeting on baseline ImPACT testing, updated knowledge about concussions as a mild traumatic brain injury (TBI), treatment, management, and common signs and symptoms of a concussion. All parents, coaches, and student athletes are strongly encouraged to attend this informational meeting.

Annually, prior to trying out for a sport, all parents and student athletes in grades 7-12 will be required to participate in and document having successfully completed one of the following, in order for the athlete to practice or play:

OPTION A

Attend the preseason informational concussion meeting organized by the Peters Township School District or a local school district. This meeting is scheduled for Aug. 8 at 7:30 in the PTHS main auditorium.

Parents and student athletes must also review the video provided at the annual preseason informational concussion meeting. Please note that the video will not be available until after the Aug. 8 meeting and the link to the video will be posted in PowerSchool under the Daily Bulletin.

OPTION C

Take an approved educational course on concussions. Links to these courses are provided on the District website link above.

Please find attached the Parent/Athlete Concussion Awareness and Signature Sheet which needs to be signed and returned prior to Aug. 13, 2012.
