Mylan Classic Set to Return to Southpointe Golf Club

Officials from the Mylan Classic announced on Thursday that the Web.com Tour tournament will return to Southpointe Golf Club in Washington County in 2013 with the addition of a unique eligibility format that includes 12 invitations to collegiate All-Americans and other amateur standouts. 

Special invitations will be extended to the reigning U.S. Amateur and the current NCAA individual champion, Jack Nicklaus Award winner (collegiate player of the year) and first-team All-Americans. The remaining invitations will go to U.S. Walker Cup team members, second-team All-Americans or the Division II player of the year.

In addition, the Web.com Tour is pleased to announce that Mylan, one of the world’s leading drug companies, will again sponsor this event.

Mylan’s Executive Chairman Robert J. Last year alone, the event generated more than $545,000 for participating charities, and since 2010, it has raised more than $1.35 million for local non-profits. We truly appreciate all of the past contributions from event supporters, employees and community volunteers, and we look forward to another great event this summer.”

The new format featuring the college All-Americans and U.S. Amateur champion has been in effect since 2007 at the Nationwide Children's Hospital Open, which becomes a Web.com Tour Finals event in 2013. Past participants include current PGA TOUR stars Rickie Fowler, Dustin Johnson, Kyle Stanley and Bud Cauley. The event has been won three times by one of the All-Americans - Daniel Summerhays of BYU in 2007, Harris English of the University of Georgia in 2011 and last year by Ben Kohles of the University of Virginia.

The 2013 Web.com Tour schedule will feature 25 tournaments, played in 16 states and five Latin American countries, and will debut the four-event Web.com Tour Finals, which will conclude the season in September.

The Web.com Tour enters a new era in 2013 with Web.com as its umbrella sponsor and a dramatically reconfigured PGA TOUR qualifying structure in place that will result in all 50 PGA TOUR cards for the 2013-14 season coming through the Web.com Tour.

The Mylan Classic is the only event in Pennsylvania on the Web.com Tour’s schedule. It will be held July 29 to Aug. 4 at Southpointe Golf Club in Cecil Township.

The event will draw a unique 144-player field consisting of Web.com Tour professionals and amateur standouts from as many as 20 countries. Also descending on Washington County during tournament week will be the players’ families, caddies, Pro-Am participants, corporate guests, television crews, Tour staff members and thousands of spectators. The Golf Channel will televise all four rounds of the Mylan Classic in the U.S. Internationally, the tournament will be distributed via the PGA TOUR to 176 countries and territories on every continent but Antarctica.

Charitable contributions have been a significant part of the PGA TOUR since 1938. Including the Web.com Tour and Champions Tour, PGA TOUR events annually benefit more than 3,000 charities and countless individuals worldwide. To date, the PGA TOUR has raised more than $1.8 billion for charities.
