Peters Boys Swimming Captures Section Title

The meet against rival Upper St. Clair came to a thrilling close, 56-46.

Last Thursday, the Peters Township High School boys swimming team had a victorious win, taking home the section title after defeating rival Upper St. Clair.

Held at the Upper St. Clair pool, the match ended 56-46. It was a competitive contest until the very end, according to booster president and Peters swimming mom Beth Rich.

Aside from the students facing off, it was a friendly coach versus coach dual meet. Upper St. Clair swimming coach Tom Donati and his former swimmer and assistant, Peters Township coach Tom Fletcher met once again.

Other first place finishers were Chris Buzard—in the 100 breast—and Andrew
Rich—in the 100 fly.

In the final event, the 400 freestyle relay team of Dan Pletz, Kyle Higgins, Chris Buzard and Andrew Rich not only won that relay, but also broke the USC pool record with a time of 3:13.04.

"It was a very exciting and fast meet," Rich said. "It was one of the most exciting dual meets I've ever attended. It was loud and exciting. Both teams were competing to the 400 freestyle relay at the very end."

The Upper St. Clair girls team claimed its section's crown.

Rich said more than 25 Peters swimmers are headed to the WPIAL championships on March 1-2 at the University of Pittsburgh's Trees Pool.

Quick and competitive races are highly anticipated.
