Peters Girls Lacrosse Wins WPIAL Championship!

The Lady Indians defeated Pine-Richland, 21-18, Thursday night winning their fourth championship since 2007.

 (16-4) seized the WPIAL title Thursday night after a big 21-18 win against Pine-Richland (16-3). The team hasn't held the title since 2009, but also held it in 2007 and 2008.

Goals were scored by Hannah Wilcox, Alison Hurley, Sarah Bootman, Rachel Berquist, Catlin Carey and Torrey Schwartz.

Both Mel Morgret and Sarah Kronket played in goal while Hannah Dray, Emily Kipling, Katie Denning, Rachel Windmeuller and Izzy DiGnazio provided exceptional defense.

The game was a nail biter right from the opening whistle with Pine-Richland scoring the first two goals of the game. Excellent teamwork helped Wilcox score three goals in the first half. All three of her goals were assisted by different Peters players (Bootman, Schwartz and Carey).

Berquist scored off a feed from Wilcox. First-half goals were also added by Hurley, Bootman and Carey.

Peters came out strong in the second half. With impressive defense and draw controls, they were able to score three quick goals by Bootman, Berquist and Wilcox.

At 20:22 left in the game, Wilcox chased down and checked the Pine-Richland goalie causing her to drop the ball. Wilcox quickly picked up the ball and buried it in the back of the net.

Pine-Richland countered with a goal, but PT fought back and added goals by Carey, Schwartz and Hurley (who had four goals in the second half).

Peters continued to lead the scoring effort, until the final whistle with an exciting goal by Schwartz off a feed from Wilcox in the final second of the game making the score 21-18.

Peters and Mt. Lebanon, who defeated Shady Side Academy—16-13—Thursday, head to the PIAA playoffs. PT will play Penn Manor from Millersville, PA on Wednesday, May 30. Time and place is TBD.
