Peters Hockey Claims Another Win, Holds Best Record in PIHL AA

Taylor Cox has a 3-point night in a 6-1 win over Gateway.

The PIHL Penguins playoffs are a little more than two weeks away, and the Peters Township varsity hockey team continued their march toward them with a 6-1 win over Gateway Monday night at the Iceoplex at Southpointe.

It was the final regular season game at the Iceoplex this year. The next time the Indians play on the Southpointe ice, they will be playing their first round opponent in the playoffs.

The win improved the Indians’ record to 15-2-1, for the best record in the entire PIHL AA standings.

Taylor Cox led the way in Monday night’s game, scoring two goals and registering one assist. Cox now leads the team in goal-scoring with 18 goals and 33 points.

Alex Dagnal also scored a shorthanded goal in the second period, and added an assist on a goal by Cole Snyder, who got the Indians off and running in the first period. It was Snyder’s 13th goal of the season and 36th point.

Other goal scorers in Monday night’s game were Davin Groom and Ben Zalewski.

Woody Shell stopped 18 Gators’ shots on goal, while the Indians had 34 shots on Gateway’s net.

The Indians go on the road to meet Greensburg Central Feb. 24, then close out the regular season on March 4, when they visit Thomas Jefferson.
