Peters Township Native Ousted in First Round of Australian Open

Late comeback attempt falls short in third set (4-6, 6-1, 2-6).

took center stage earlier Tuesday at the Australian Open.  

Her first-round draw in the Women's Singles bracket pitted her against Poland's Urszula Radwanska. Early on, it was Radwanska who held court—winning the first set 6-4.  

Riske who earned a scholarship to Vanderbilt University in 2009, rested on her confident swing, connecting on 70 percent of her first serve attempts.

That momentum allowed her to take back control in the second set as she took a 6-1 advantage to tie the match at 1. However, the added pressure did not get to Radwanska, who has been a professional since 2005.  

In the third and final set, Riske could not keep pace with Radwanska, as she fell 6-2.

Riske was educated under the tutelage of the Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School and played tennis for .  

In 2006, she led the Indians to a team state championship, while also winning the singles state title in the process.  

She currently trains in Hilton Head, SC and is ranked 137th in the world.
