PIHL Selects All-Star Teams

More than a dozen players from South Hills chosen among Western Pa. high school hockey's best.

The Pennsylvania Interscholastic Hockey League announced the rosters for its four all-star games, which will be played Jan. 23 at the Rostraver Ice Gardens.

Among the names listed are a number of familiar players and coaches hailing from the South Hills. Upper St. Clair head coach Larry Marks was chosen as head coach of the Class AAA Southwest All-Stars, assisted by Bethel Park head coach Jim McVay and Canon-McMillan coach Yuri Krivokhija. 

Peters Township head coach Rick Tingle will serve as an assistant coach for the Class AA Southwest All-Stars, joined on the team by forwards Ben Dachille (9 G, 8 A) and Mike Glicksman (5 G, 13 A), defenseman Mike Amelio and goaltender Woody Shell (5-2, 2.18 GAA, 91.6 save percentage). Senior forward Evan Mitchell (6 G, 12 A) was named as an alternate.

Marks will take three players from his team: forward C.J. Murray, the league's fourth-leading scorer (14 goals, 15 assists), forward Justin Selep (five goals, eight assists) and defenseman Parker Phillips (three goals, five assists, 27 penalties in minutes). 

Forwards Brett Oldaker (11 G, 19 A) and Zach McKown (10 G, 13 A) of Canon-McMillan were selected to the AAA Southwest team, along with junior defenseman Alex Baskakov (8 G, 12 A) and goaltender Ryan Palonis (7-2, 2.83 goals against average).

Mt. Lebanon's representatives will be their leading scorer, forward Trevor Nelson (5 G, 10 A) and defenseman Will Hoeft (3 G, 7 A). Senior forward Chris Ford (9 G, 5 A) was named as an alternate.

Forwards Daniel Kucerovy (13 G, 8 A) and Michael Seifert (5 G, 8 A), and defenseman Mike Shipley (2 G, 5 A, 26 PIM) were selected from Bethel Park. Junior forward Zach Volzer and defenseman Lucas Mueser were chosen as alternates.
