Fourth of July Parade Marks 50 Years

Canonsburg celebrated Independence Day in grand style with a biggest-ever parade and other holiday activities.

The always-spectacular celebrated its 50th year Wednesday, both bigger and better than ever.

The event-filled day kicked off with annual Whiskey Rebellion 5K Race, the ringing of the church bells at 9 a.m. and then the iconic parade.

Entertainer Bobby Shawn and borough Manager Terry Hazlett served as masters of ceremonies. The parade's founding fathers—Anthony L. Colaizzo, Ed Snarey and Mario DiPalma—served as marshals with as celebrity marshal.

Honorable recognitions were given to the wrestlers who won the PIAA State Team Duals Championships and PIAA State Individual Championships.

The celebration moved to Town Park in the afternoon with a number of activities and entertainment, including a performance by Brock. A fireworks display ended the evening with a bang.
