Registration Open for Peters Fishing Derby

The 13th annual derby at Peters Lake Park is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 11.

The 13th annual is right around the corner! Traditionally held at , the derby is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 11.

The event, hosted by the McMurray Rotary Club and , is open to youngsters—boys and girls—in kindergarten through fifth grade.

Last year, approximately 60 children were registered for the event prior to the big day, and even more signed up day-of. Awards are given for First Fish Caught, Most Fish Caught, Smallest Fish Caught and Largest Fish Caught.

All participants will receive a door prize. 

Last summer, each registered child received a welcome package, which included an event-themed water bottle, a $10 Dick's Sporting Goods gift certificate, a certificate for a free haircut at Sport Clips, a frisbee, sidewalk chalk and a snack consisting of a juicebox and Goldfish crackers (fittingly appropriate).

The derby runs from 10 a.m. to noon and costs $5 for residents—$10 for those who reside outside of .

Last year, kids won great prizes—NintendoDS, an iPod nano and a Sony CyberShot DSC W510 digital camera, just to name a few.

Froggy Radio, the Iceoplex at Southpointe, , and the Carnegie Science Center all contributed to the door prize selection.
