Community Bands Playing Free Concert

Four bands will take the stage Saturday afternoon at the Upper St. Clair High School auditorium.

Who can resist the stirring sound of a concert band playing a Sousa march, a light overture or the familiar tunes from movies or popular Broadway shows?

Come listen to four unique community bands playing evening concert pieces, show tunes, marches and other musical favorites.

The Three Rivers Community Band Festival is a free concert that will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the . The concert will include James Gourlay and the Festival Band, the Youngstown Area Community Concert Band, the East Wind Symphonic Band and Community Band South.

Community Band South has about 80 members, most of whom are from the South Hills neighborhoods around Pittsburgh.

The Three Rivers Community Band Festival is a showcase of the many musically talented individuals in the region, and the concert promises a medley of music that will appeal to a wide range of musical tastes. The bands are made up of musicians from over 30 communities in Allegheny County and 10 other counties in the region.

Community Band South has been entertaining audiences around the area since 1987, performing an average of 15 shows each year. The band celebrates its 25th anniversary this year.
