Get Out: Cake Decorating Contest, Peters Thespian Picnic & Nixon Church Benefit

Here are 10 events that you and your family can enjoy before school is back in session Monday.

1.
Where/When: Carmike Cinema, Thursday, 10 a.m.
Why Go?: Carmike is hosting a Summer Kids Series with cheap discounts and major movies. This week's movie is The Last Airbender!
Pricing: $1 admission per person

2.
Where/When: , Thursday, 1-2 p.m.
Why Go: It's back to school time! Grades 9-12 and parents are invited to this SAT and ACT informational program. Participants will explore the differences between the two tests. Register at the library's circulation desk.

Where?/When?: , Thursday, 6:30-8 p.m.
Why Go?: Junior bakers and cake decorators can showcase their talents and win a prize at a Kids Cake Decorating Contest sponsored by in Upper St. Clair. The theme of the contest is "My Summer Vacation," and prizes will be awarded in three age categories: ages 8 and under, ages 9-13, and ages 14-18. A fan favorite will be selected by those in attendance as well.  to read the official rules and entry form.
Pricing: An entry fee of $10 per cake will be collected and donated to the library.

Where?/When?: Thursday, 6:30-9 p.m.
Why Go?: The Thespian Troupe will hold its annual picnic for incoming students who are interested in theater. Kick off the school year and learn all about theater with classmates!

Where?/When?:  , Thursday, 7 p.m.
Why Go?: Learn the secrets to a successful pollinator garden at this workshop, including the very best plants to grow in order to attract pollinators. Register by emailing programs@ptlibrary.org or at the circulation desk.

Where/When: , Friday, 6-9 p.m.
Why Go: Come join the bible chapel for bocce and pizza night. Pick a partner and register to play in this double elimination tournament at the Men's Ministry Table in the main lobby during all services. You may also email v.consoli@comcast.net to sign up. If you don't have a partner, the church will pair you with another single at random.
Pricing: $5 per person

7.
Where?/When?: , Friday, 7:30-10 p.m.
Why Go?: Since Don and Shileen Nixon started holding church services at their home in Peters Township, they have continuously given most of their time, effort and energy in order to provide heartfelt services to Christians of all ages, as well as plenty of food and refreshments for those in attendance. The purpose of this show is to help lift the financial burden of providing food and other expenses from them so that they can fully concentrate providing good services for those in attendance. There will also be a raffle for a gift basket that is being donated by Cindi Bendis. Performers include These Old Bones, Brad Bendis, Jordan Serra, Joe Wehner, Lorraine Serra and more!
Pricing: Free admission, but donations are encouraged.

Where/When: Lowes, Saturday, 10 a.m.
Why Go?: Children will build and decorate their own locker using this project kit. The kit includes stickers, chalkboard and chalk!

Where/When: Pottery Barn Kids at the Galleria, Saturday, 11 a.m.
Why Go?: Pottery Barn Kids is hosting a series of events and activities in celebration of author and illustrator, Eric Carle, and his beloved stories. Kids can read along and help build a mobile about healthy living and more.

10.
Where?/When?: The Meadows Racetrack & Casino, Saturday, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Why Go?: Spend the day with your family and friends at The Great American Food Drive’s Family Fun Day. There will be all kinds of things to see and do for kids, and adults of all ages. You can attempt to reach the top of the 3WS Climbing Wall or walk on over to Armed Forces Way and see all the great military exhibits. Kids can have their face painted or experience what it is like to be a farmer at the Young Farmers area. There will be live entertainment including the Supercyclers Unicycle Club and country music by the Saddle Tramps. The Greater Washington County Food Bank will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the most food collected in 24 hours in one location. Come show your support and help make this event a great success!
