Patch Pet of the Month: Lovely, Lonely, Lexus

Do you have room in your heart and home for this lonely girl?

Every morning I wake up and wonder why I'm here at Angel Ridge Animal Rescue.

I was adopted as a puppy years ago, and now I'm about 6 years old, a fledgling senior who finds myself in a wire cage with a concrete floor instead of wall-to-wall carpeting and cozy couch.

I was brought here by the sister of my owner (I call her Mom) who said that mom is now disabled and can't take care of me. I assumed it was just another car ride, but when I got out, two big dogs came rushing up to me and I just froze. They sniffed my face and butt and checked me out while I just stood there. I wasn't going to make any trouble, but I'm troubled about being one of the newly homeless.

The first couple of weeks did not seem too bad. Volunteers petted and walked me and I would give them a big smile because I was so happy to see people, to get outside and walk around. I thought I would be going home soon, but the weeks have turned into months and I am feeling very blue.

I do not brighten up when visitors come anymore. I lie around most of the time and sometimes barely lift my head. Even though I am surrounded by other dogs, we are all separated and I am very lonely, missing my Mom and former life.

My name is Lexus and I'm a big, beautiful, shepherd mix with a refined air and good manners. I am also easy to walk. I'm housebroken and am a calm, quiet companion.

In a word, I'm nearly perfect, if only I was given a chance to show it. I have a lot of good years to spend keeping somebody company, protecting the house and lounging in the sunbeams that shine in from the window. I do get along with lots of other dogs and do not pay any attention to the silly cats that walk the grounds. I even think that living with some kids could be fun for all of us. I do not need a whole lot of exercise, but I would enjoy a daily walk.

Sometimes people just don’t want a big dog. Everyone seems to go for a cute little puppy not thinking that lots of them grow up to be just like me. I wish that size and age did not matter as much to people as temperament and energy level.

I am such a good dog for almost anyone who is looking for a loving, loyal pet.
