Three Peters Township members of the Civil Air Patrol’s Washington County Chapter received special congressional recognition from U.S. Rep. Timothy Murphy earlier this month, as well as awards from their squadron for their contributions to the community. Washington Squadron 601 is a local unit of Civil Air Patrol, an all-volunteer, civilian auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force and a nonprofit organization that provides search and rescue, emergency services, youth programs, aerospace education and more to the Washington County area. The Civil Air Patrol’s Washington Squadron 601 will host its annual open house to welcome interested youth and adults at the National Guard Armory, 125 Goodridge Lane, Washington from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday. The evening will include explanations of CAP’s training and educational opportunities, missions and cadet programs. All members of the community are encouraged to attend. Squadron 601 members include students and adults from Canonsburg, Peters Township, Washington, Amity, Avella, South Fayette and even West Virginia. A special Change of Command ceremony was held recently for the Peters student.
Adam Parker, a junior at Peters Township High School, was appointed the new cadet commander of Civil Air Patrol (CAP) Washington County Squadron 601 on Wednesday, June 6, at a special Change of Command ceremony held at the National Guard Armory in Washington, PA. The ceremony was conducted by Capt. Edward Silassy, the newly appointed commander of Washington Squadron 601. Also in attendance were Maj. Gary Fleming, vice commander, CAP’s Pennsylvania Wing; Lt.
