News Nearby: Ardolino's Pizza Places Second at International Pizza Challenge

The Upper St. Clair couple's non-traditional entry earned honors in Las Vegas.

There were pizza makers from New York, from Italy, from all over the world, but it was Tammy Ardolino's non-traditional creation that captured the attention of the judges at the International Pizza Challenge in Las Vegas. Tammy and Rodney Ardolino, owners of Ardolino's Pizza—just over the Peters Township border—in Upper St. Clair, entered their "Pizza Freako" into the non-traditional category last week and placed second in the region and 10th in the world. Ardolino's Pizza to Serve Beer, Liquor

The Boyce Road pizzeria must get final approval from the Liquor Control Board.

Upper St. Clair commissioners approved the transfer of a liquor license to Ardolino's Pizza on Boyce Road. The owners of Ardolino's Pizza on Boyce Road have taken the first step in their plans to build a new restaurant. The Upper St. Clair Planning Commission gave the Ardolinos tentative approval last Thursday. After opening up the pizzeria 28 years ago, Rodney Ardolino said he's ready to expand. He hopes to build a second building with more indoor and outdoor seating, and lease the existing building to another business that would compliment the pizzeria, such as an ice cream or coffee shop. "We want it to be a family place; a place for kids to come," said Tammy Ardolino, co-owner and wife of Rodney. Rodney and Tammy have two sons in high school, Joseph and Nolan, who participate in the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony. They asked the planning …
