'Art in the Garden' Returns for Another Year

Now in its 19th year, Washington County Historical Society's longest running annual event features the artwork of Peters resident Arlene Popko.

A Peters Township resident will be showcasing her artwork at Washington County Historical Society's longest running annual event, now in its 19th year.  Artist Arlene Popko of Venetia returns to "Art in the Garden" at the LeMoyne House in Washington on Sunday, Sept. 9, from 2-6 p.m.  The event features original artwork from 65 renowned area artists and combines live music, delicious hors d'oeuvres, kids' activities and beautiful artwork. Last year's event attracted hundreds of supporters and three Peters natives were part of the artisan lineup.  Tickets are $20 and part of the proceeds benefit the LeMoyne House, Pennsylvania’s first National Historic Landmark of the Underground Railroad, and its programs. “Eighteen years ago we came up …

Art in the Garden Attracts Hundreds Sunday Afternoon

Three Peters Township artists were among more than 60 who took part in the annual event to support the Washington County Historical Society.

Except for a couple of passing showers early on, the 18th annual Art in the Garden program in Madeleine’s Garden at the LeMoyne House in Washington had the perfect Sunday afternoon. More than 60 artisans, including three Peters natives, and photographers from Washington County displayed their best works and sold them to a well-dressed crowd of visitors, with part of the proceeds benefiting the LeMoyne House and its programs. “This is a major fundraiser for the historical society,” said local artist Ray Forquer, a board member and part of the Art in the Garden committee. “Eighteen years ago we came up with the idea to create a miniature arts show to make the works of the artists more affordable.
