Vote Remains to Not Connect Woodlands, Whispering Pines

Peters Township Council made a motion to reconsider its original vote, however, majority ruled not in favor.

Not an empty seat in Peters Township Council chambers as concerned residents filed in Monday night. Council posted on its agenda that it would be reviewing its previous vote—made July 24—to eliminate the Berry Lane interconnection between The Woodlands and new Whispering Pines plans. "Council can reconsider votes," said council President Robert Lewis. "Nothing assures you that it's the final decision."  Township Solicitor William Johnson and Lewis went back and forth on the legality of conducting a new vote. The Peters Home Rule Charter states a vote once taken is final.  Lewis made the motion to reconsider the vote via "yay" or "nay." Council voted 4-2—Lewis and Robert Atkison dissenting—to not reconsider its previous decision to not …

Woodlands Residents Voice Traffic Concerns Near Whispering Pines

Peters Township Council heard residents' concerns Monday and approved a builder's reduced setbacks request with one condition—an interconnection be eliminated.

Editor's Note: This story was last updated at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Peters Township Council approved 4-2 Monday, chairman Robert Atkison and council President Robert Lewis dissenting, a request by Ted Taylor, III to permit reduced setbacks on certain lots in the Whispering Pines plan with the condition that the Berry Lane interconnection be eliminated. The plan was modified to use 35-foot setbacks on 13 lots, 18 lots with full 50-foot setbacks and eight lots with various setbacks. Taylor told council the setbacks were decided with the homeowner and his/her desired amenities in mind, i.e. three-car garages and more backyard space for porches, decks, pools, play sets, etc.—the typography also being a factor. The justification is that the reduced …

UPDATE: Bebout Road to Close Wednesday for Bridge Completion

Peters Township officials said the new Arrowhead Trail Bridge will be stained causing detours to be in effect for one day only.

Update: The Arrowhead Trail Bridge opened to foot traffic Thursday. Work on the nearly finished Bebout bridge project in Peters Township will cause closures and detours for one day only—today. Bebout Road, at the intersection of Valley Brook Road, is closed today for staining of the new Arrowhead Trail Bridge, township manager Michael Silvestri said.  Previously used detours will be in effect. This is expected to be the last road closure for this bridge project, he said.  Bebout Road will reopen to traffic Thursday and no further closures are expected. UPDATE: Bebout Road Now Open, Trail Remains Closed

The road has reopened after months of bridge construction and detours.

Many Peters Township residents are breathing a sigh of relief Tuesday morning—Bebout Road has reopened.  After months of construction and detours, the Arrowhead Trail bridge/connector has been built and Bebout Road is clear for use. The trail, however, remains closed for at least a couple more weeks for staining, according to the township. Bebout Road is scheduled to close again Monday, April 23 in an effort to completely finish the project. Township officials said those plans are weather-permitting. I'm not surprised this happened, as this is a very dangerous parking lot. People speed through it and many ignore pedestrians.   more ›

UPDATED: Bebout Trail Bridge to Close for Final Construction

Beginning Feb. 7, the road will be closed for several months to construct and connect the Arrowhead Trail bridge.

Bebout Road, near Valley Brook Road, is set to close again beginning Feb. 7. The closure will continue for several months while the Arrowhead Trail bridge is constructed.  The road was first closed in the fall while the concrete trail overpass was demolished. The township told residents the closures would take place in late February, however steel for the project is being delivered sooner than planned, according to the township. The township is preparing signs, and detours (Justabout and Thomas roads) will be posted. Businesses will remain open on Valley Brook Road during the road closure. The school district staff said bus routes were established this year with these closures in mind. Any delays in student bus schedules, they said, should…

Bebout Trail Bridge to Close Oct. 24

Demolition will cause road closures for three weeks.

The trail overpass at Bebout and Valley Brook roads in Peters will begin demolition Monday, Oct. 24, causing road closures for three weeks, according to township Manager Michael Silvestri. There may be some geotechnical exploration on the trail to do next week, he said. Until early November, Silvestri is urging residents to follow posted signs and detours—Justabout Road to Thomas Road. Montour Trail Council volunteers will also be marking the detour at nearly every turn with directional arrows for trail users’ convenience, its newsletter states. "But for those of you with smart phones, simply scan the QR code on this page." The council has placed directional signs through the Colony Manor and Briarcliff plans to Peterswood Park for …
