United Way Washington County to Unveil Volunteer Awards in Canonsburg in May

The nonprofit will also announce its final campaign total for 2012-13 at the luncheon at Bella Sera May 16.

The United Way of Washington County will announce its Volunteer Awards, Campaign Awards and final campaign total for 2012-13 at its annual Campaign Celebration and Awards luncheon May 16th at Bella Sera in Canonsburg. United Way President Barbara Murphy will present the following volunteer awards: In addition to the volunteer awards, Campaign Chairman John Applegath, vice president of the Southern Marcellus Shale Division of Range Resources of Southpointe, will present special recognition awards to local businesses that participated in the United Way’s 2012-13 campaign. Sixth Annual Symphony of Food, Chefs’ Showcase Dinner Upcoming

Every dollar raised from the event will stay in western Pennsylvania and help women and children in need.

The Sixth Annual Symphony of Food, Chefs’ Showcase Dinner, sponsored by WOMEN of Southwestern PA, Inc., is this Friday at the Bella Sera Venue located at 414 Morganza Rd. in Canonsburg. The event has been a sellout for five years. Five chefs will each prepare one of his signature courses. Chef John Gruver of Giant Eagle’s Market District will provide the appetizers; along with Kevin Sousa, Salt of the Earth; Matthew Helon, Center Place; Giuseppe DiGristina, Bella Sera Venue; and Al Collins of Al an’ Ruben’s. Each chef comes with a litany of fine-dining successes and the recipe for a fun-filled, palate-pleasing evening concluding with a Sarris Candies treat. Annual Fashion Show Benefits Women and Children In Need

A McMurray-based organization invites you for a charitable evening of fashion and wine.

Spring has sprung, and what better way to celebrate than an evening of fashion and wine.  The WOMEN of Southwestern PA, a Peters Township-based organization on a mission to help women and children in need, invite you to Bella Sera in Canonsburg on April 19.  Presented as "Una Serata di Moda e Vino" (an evening of fashion and wine), the event is from 6-9 p.m. and costs $35—ticket price includes pasta and dessert stations, and a wine tasting.  Fashion co-chairs Noreen Fleming and Bonnie Hanlon said an "amazing women's clothing line" in a "fabulous fashion show format" will be featured.  Diana Miller, owner of Design on Main in Hickory, PA, will showcase her accessories and all models will be wearing Mediterranean-design jewelry from Cristal …

More than 25 Peters Township, and surrounding area, restaurants have committed to this year's 'Taste of the Township' in April.

Tickets are on sale now for the 11th annual "Taste of the Township." A staple in the Peters Township community, the event's proceeds benefit the Peters Township Public Library. It's a fun night of food, festivities and mingling with township officials, friends and neighbors.  Library director Pier Lee confirmed last week that more than 25 Peters Township, and surrounding area, restaurants will be offering good eats and tasty treats—Atria's, Bella Sera, Bethel Bakery, The Capstone Grill, Dinner Tyme, Franco's, Harry's Pizza, Juniper Grill, Penny's Diner, Table and Bean Curd, just to name a few. WOMEN Helping Women: The Fifth Annual Symphony of Food

Fill your belly and your heart by attending this event, which features signature dishes prepared by some of Pittsburgh’s top chefs and directly benefits less fortunate women and families in Pennsylvania.

“If you can help one young woman, and enable her to do things she’d otherwise be unable to do and strive for something better in life, that’s how things will change. Even one-by-one, it’s a step in the right direction.” That’s the personal philosophy of Julia Black, and it echoes the organizational mission of the group for which she serves as publicity chairwoman. Black is but one of 34 philanthropic ladies who volunteer for WOMEN of Southwestern PA, Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to directly supporting less fortunate women and families in Allegheny, Washington, Greene and Fayette counties.
