Nearby: Driver Who Crashed Into Tanker Truck Charged with DUI

Investigators believe the Cecil man was under the influence of drugs.

A Cecil Township man is being charged with DUI and other crimes after he crashed into a tanker truck Friday afternoon, causing lengthy delays. Devin D. Carter, 38, was arrested minutes after the crash along Bower Hill Road on Feb. 8 after Bridgeville police officers said they spotted him walking away from the scene. Investigators said they believe Carter was under the influence of drugs when he crossed the centerline and crashed into the side of the tanker. The truck’s fuel tank ruptured, spilling diesel onto the roadway, although the used motor oil it was transporting did not leak, police said. Police said Carter failed a field sobriety test and claimed to be “still recovering from a hangover from the Super Bowl” even though the game was …

Missing Bridgeville Man Found Dead

Laurie "Larry" McDonald, the Bridgeville man went missing Thursday night.

The missing Bridgeville man who vanished Thursday night has been found dead in Edgewood, according to authorities. The body of Laurie “Larry” McDonald, 81, was found in a wooded area not far from the Parkway East, Bridgeville police Chief Chad King said. WPXI-TV reported McDonald’s body was found around 4:30 p.m. Sunday. King said McDonald left for a doctor’s appointment in Homewood on Thursday and apparently got lost on his way home. He somehow ended up on an access road, King said, and either crashed his car or got stuck in the mud. McDonald then called his wife around 9 p.m. Thursday to say he saw a gas station and planned to walk through a wooded area to get assistance. Wilkinsburg police found the car around 9:30 p.m. and had it towed…

Officers Stop Woman From Jumping Off I-79 Overpass

Three police officers from Collier Township and Bridgeville are being hailed as heroes for stopping a woman from leaping to her death off an Interstate 79 overpass.

Three police officers from Collier Township and Bridgeville are being hailed as heroes for stopping a woman from leaping to her death off an Interstate 79 overpass and possibly injuring unsuspecting motorists below. Sgt. Robert Ferrence and Officer Steve Oberle of Collier, and Officer Roger Itzel of Bridgeville were awarded a commendation by Collier Township officials Wednesday night for their efforts to save the woman and prevent others from being hurt. Collier police Chief Thomas Devin said the officers received a call on Oct. 24 of a woman sitting on the I-79 overpass along Prestley Road with her feet dangling over the edge. Oberle and Itzel blocked the road while Ferrence tried talking to the unidentified woman “to keep her busy” as …
