Peters Township Character Counts awarded 40 students and adults for their outstanding commitment to the ideals of respect, honesty and responsibility. The special community event on April 30 at Peters Township Middle School was hosted by two members of the Peters Township High School student leadership team, students Rachel Hobbs and Samuel Lindsay. Peters Township Character Counts committee handed out their Fall Recognition Awards on Oct. 23 to 15 members of the community. The ceremony is designed to provide the community with a way to say thank you and to recognize peers, colleagues, neighbors and students for making a commitment to the ideals of respect, honest and responsibility. A list of those recognized this fall is below: The ceremony will air on Peters Township Cable in the coming weeks. The emcees for the fall ceremony were Michael Henaghan, Peters Township Middle School assistant principal and Mr. Christopher Shute, Bower Hill Elementary assistant principal.

Who doesn't love free music and an effort for the troops? The United States Air Force Jazz Ensemble will perform in the Peters Township High School auditorium tonight at 7 p.m. The event is sponsored by Peters Township Character Counts. The night is also an effort to support our troops. The evening will commence a collection drive for deployed soldiers (mostly in Afghanistan). Donations for Operation Troop Appreciation will be accepted via collection box. Character Counts and Boy Scout Troop 1320 are working with OTA on the drive. Peters Township School Board and superintendent recognized recent accomplishments within the district, including some major sports titles.
“We have a lot to celebrate tonight,” said Peters Township School District Superintendent Dr. Nina Zetty at Monday night’s regular meeting of the PT Board of School Directors. The meeting began with a “Celebration of Excellence,” where Zetty recognized academic, artistic, athletic, character and leadership achievements within the PT school district. Peters residents and representatives of national and local organizations came out on Sunday night, to show Character Counts and commemorate the anniversary of 9/11 by recognizing heroes of our nation’s military and first response services.
The Peters Township High School stadium was packed on Sunday evening. Hundreds of people filled the bleachers, filed into rows of folding chairs and spilled over into standing-room positions. What drew the audience to the high school, however, was neither a high school sport nor a high school spectacle. It was a community-wide rally for America. According to PTHS Assistant Principal Christian Lesnett, who was instrumental in planning and executing the event, Rally for America 2011 was held to commemorate the 10-year anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on our nation, as well as to recognize and honor local members of military services, military veterans and first responders, such as police officers, firefighters and paramedics. …

Awards were presented to recognized residents April 12.
Character is a key component of the Peters Township School District and community. The district was one of two schools nationwide to receive the 2010 National School District of Character Award, and recently received a Congressional Proclamation from Congressman Tim Murphy. The Peters Township Character Counts Committee welcomed residents to the Spring 2011 Recognition Awards at the municipal building April 12. It values the importance of recognizing your peers, colleagues, neighbors and students "for making a commitment to the ideals of respect, honesty and responsibility." Rep. Murphy was in attendance at Monday's school board meeting to recognize the district's national character award.
U.S. Congressman Tim Murphy paid a special visit to the Peters Township School Board during its regular meeting Monday night to present a Congressional Proclamation in recognition of the district’s National School District of Character Award, won in 2010. Peters was one of two districts nationwide to receive the honor from the Character Education Partnership last year. Nationally, 13 schools also received the unique award presented last October at the National Forum on Character Education held in San Francisco. They were not yet informed by the school district nor the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
