Consultants Reveal Residents' Vision for Peters

The township is in the process of creating its comprehensive plan.

The three-day workshop to plan Peters Township's future culminated Thursday night as consultants revealed results to a standing-room-only crowd. The number one issue among participants? Connectivity. From vehicular, to pedestrian, almost every resident who took part in the township's comprehensive planning process this week said connectivity needs to improve in Peters. The second message participants sent to planners—more housing options are needed. There is a big dip in 20-34 year olds in Peters Township due to the high price of homes. There are also retirees who wish to stay in the township, but want smaller properties and/or homes.  Third on the request list—preserving the township's rural character and its farms. And fourth—improving …

Planning staff did a great job for the first two days of the workshop. The consultants fell short on delivering the findings as advertised for that evening event. They had no real answers to any questions. Our staff and steering committee members need to hold their feet to the fire and try to get a better effort out of them for the dollars spent. They have done this before and knowing they …   more ›

This is the next—and very important—step in the township's process to develop it's 10-year comprehensive plan. 10 Years Later: Peters Township Re-evaluated

As part of Peters Township's work toward a new comprehensive plan, a consultant team has released a report on what need to be improved in the area. Do you agree?

Work is under way to come up with a new comprehensive plan for Peters Township and the consultant team, LSL Planning, Inc., has just released its "Snapshot Report." The report provides an overview of the township as it is today, how it has changed the past ten years and how it compares to other communities and regions. The report listed many positive attributes about the township: Its school system is excellent; recreational opportunities abound; taxes are relatively modest; township government is proactive; and the quality of life is considered to be very good. In addition, the community has weathered the economic storm of the last few years considerably better than much of the rest of the country. As a result, growth and development have…

Peters Township Officials to Examine Traffic, Lack of Housing Options

A 'Plan Peters' open house was held for residents Wednesday night.

Peters Township officials and consultants were on hand at the high school Wednesday night to introduce the public to the comprehensive plan that is underway. The township hired LSL Planning, Inc. to come up with a 10-year plan for land use. After three months of interviews, focus groups and the examination of more than 800 resident surveys, consultants have determined that the following are some main points of concern: Tina Cramer, a 14-year resident, attended Wednesday night's open house. "I think it's a good idea. I think more people should actually come out," she said. Cramer's main concern is the improvement of Route 19. "There is a huge amount of congestion that has gotten worse over my 14 years," she said. "Especially at Donaldson's …

What's Your Vision for Peters in 10 Years?

Peters Township has released a survey for residents as part of its comprehensive plan update.

As part of Peters Township's comprehensive plan update, the township has released a survey for residents. This preliminary step helps set a "benchmark" for how the community functions today. By law, the municipality is required to update its plan every 10 years—according to the PA Municipalities Planning Code (PA MPC).  Last month, members of a newly formed committee convened at Peters Township Community Recreation Center for the first of many meetings over the next 14 months focused on the future of PT. The township recently released the following, which includes a link to the survey: Do you believe Peters Township should allow more multi-family developments or continue promoting neighborhoods of single-family homes? Have a great idea …
