Peters Fire Department to Install Electronic Sign Board

Peters Township Council agreed to allow the community’s firefighters to install an electronic sign outside its fire department, although not everyone is happy about it.

Peters Township Council agreed to allow the community’s firefighters to install an electronic sign outside its fire department on East McMurray Road. The volunteer fire department wants to place the $22,000 electronic sign board inside its entrance marquee to make motorists and residents aware of fundraisers and community events. But not everyone on council is happy with the signs. Councilman Robert Lewis voted against the motion because he thinks the electronic signs are “ugly.” He said other electronic signs in the township, such as the one outside the Walgreens on Route 19, were sold as community outreach opportunities, but usually just advertise products. “I’m going to vote no because I object to these signs, period,” Lewis said. “I …

I have been thinking about a new sign for 5 years while changing it in the dead of winter while I was waiting for the fire truck to come back to the station after a call at 1:30am. No money is forcibly given to the volunteer department. We are constantly upgrading equipment and fire service related items.
