It was a beautiful commencement ceremony for the 2011 graduating class of Peters Township High School.
A multitudinous graduating class swarmed the Peters Township High School football field for the 2011 commencement ceremony on June 10. The band played a processional march, "Pomp and Circumstance," as a throng of seniors gathered for their graduation ceremony, the boys in crimson and the girls in white. A slight breeze blew in. Earlier school officials were concerned about having to move the event into the gymnasium for fear of rain, but the sky cleared. The ceremony opened with a trio of seniors—Breanna Ferchak, Kara Hunter and Josh Orr—singing the national anthem. PTHS High-Q Club prepares to appear on KDKA-TV's "Hometown High Q" in February.
To say the least, it's been a busy couple of months for the students in Mrs. Madhura "Maddie" Ranade's High-Q Club at Peters Township High School. The club, which meets after school every Friday, adopted the name of the popular KDKA-TV quiz show, "Hometown High-Q," which airs every Saturday, and now a select team from Mrs. Ranade's club will actually be featured as contestants on the show sometime in February. It's a goal that they have been working toward since the club was first formed. "Peters Township High School has many super-smart kids," Ranade, an admitted fan of the TV show, said.
