With the economy tight, we want to know where in western Pennsylvania is your favorite Staycation!
We all know that the economy is tough nowadays, so we at Patch want to find ways for families to enjoy a summer vacation on the cheap. There are plenty of places to have a great summer vacation without spending a lot of money. You can go to Kennywood, ride the bike trails, spend a day at the trolley museum, relax at the local park, take in an auto race, ride a boat or hit some golf balls. We at Patch are calling it a Staycation! And we want to know where your favorite local place is to spend a weekend without spending a lot of money. The Highmark Youth Clinic was held at the Mylan Classic Tuesday.
Kids turned out Tuesday for the Highmark Youth Clinic held at the Mylan Classic in Southpointe. Pro golfers such as Brent Long and Jake Wise gave tips and demonstrations were held. Tournament action for the Mylan Classic begins Thursday. For a schedule of events, click here.

Canonsburg General Hospital’s 27th Annual Benefit Golf Tournament has been announced. The event has been scheduled for Sept. 12 at Valley Brook Country Club in McMurray. Proceeds from the tournament benefit the Patient Gateway Project at the hospital. The event, cosponsored by the Canonsburg General Hospital Medical Staff and Angelo Falconi’s Moon Township Dealerships, includes brunch, dinner, raffle and skill prizes. One golfer will take a shot at $1 million, and another will get a chance to make a put for $5,000.
Scott McClain said the annual Thomas Youth League Golf Outing is more than a fundraising event—it's also a really good time. That said, he needs your help. McClain, who is the director of the outing, said he is looking for two single players and a couple of foursomes for the event—which will start at 11:30 a.m. May 14 at Quicksilver Golf Club in Midway. The cost of a foursome, he said, is $400. The cost for a single player is $125, and those prices include 18 holes of golf and a chance to win an opportunity to take a shot at $1 million, or to take a put for $5,000. High school golfer has solid season, but has his eyes on next year.
The season's over, but sophomore Tom Nettles still practices every day. He is a player and lover of golf. In past months, he and the Peters golf team won the WPIAL Division I boys' golf title. Together the team shot a combined 397 at Cedarbrook Gold in Belle Vernon and won by three strokes against Latrobe. Coach David Kuhn and the team went on to compete for a Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association title at Tom's Run Golf Course in Blairsville; they performed well, and the team took a second-place finish at the PIAA Western Regional. Only a sophomore, Nettles had a great season and found himself in tune. This past fall Nettles also competed individually and took third in an American Junior Golf Association tournament. He has …
