Drum roll please. A new poll shows the majority of Americans prefer ...
Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays? When it comes to season’s greetings, a new poll shows the majority of Americans prefer “Merry Christmas” to “Happy Holidays.” The survey from Rasmussen Reports finds that 68 percent of the people polled prefer the traditional “Merry Christmas” while just 23 percent like "Happy Holidays," which can cover a variety of occasions. It doesn’t end there. When it comes to holiday signs, a whopping 70 percent of shoppers polled said they prefer to be greeted with “Merry Christmas” in stores rather than the more neutral Happy Holidays, according to a Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey. The so-called “War on Christmas” has been a hot topic for years, with some saying “Merry Christmas” excludes non-…
Mixing a concoction of things that can be found at the corner store will extend the life and luster of fresh firs.
Editor's Note: Our sister Patch in Stow, Ohio provided this article for us. If you're buying a live Christmas tree just this year, the following recipe will extend the life of a live tree, according to a Stow Firefighter. Most Christmas trees are expected to live only a couple of weeks after being cut down. But Stow Fire Department Marshal Jim Leidel has a recipe, he says, that extends the life and luster of the fresh firs. "No fire-proofing technique works 100 percent of the time," said Leidel. But he believes the following recipe can make a living tree stay green longer. Ingredients: Instructions: So, how does this Christmas tree tea work? "The syrup provides the food necessary to allow the base of the tree to take up water," said …

Just what is Small Business Saturday and why should you support it in Peters Township?
Big name national retailers take the spotlight on Black Friday as their deep price cuts pull in shoppers in droves. What about those mom-and-pop businesses all over Peters Township and beyond that are the backbone of America’s economy? Just when do they get their day? That’s basically the question that was asked back in 2010 when the concept of Small Business Saturday was born. Small Business Saturday is “a day to celebrate and support small businesses and all they do for their communities,” the U.S. Small Business Administration explains on its website. American Express gets the credit for founding the shopping holiday, which got its official start on Nov. 27, 2010, according to the Small Business Saturday Facebook page. Celebrating its …

Slightly more Americans will hit the road this Thanksgiving, according to AAA.
Thanksgiving week is shaping up to be beautiful with the high temperature each day expected to be in the high 50s. Forecasters are also predicting sunny skies with light wind and no precipitation. The only chance for rain this week appears to be on Friday. Good for all of you hitting the road or traveling by air to visit Grandma, and for all those Turkey Bowls. AAA predicts 43.6 million Americans will travel at least 50 miles from home over the holiday, up just 0.7 percent from last year. Air travel is expected to decline, one sign that many households continue to feel financially pinched. Here's the forecast for Peters Township, according to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh: By car or by airplane, how do you like to travel on …
