Four Townsmen and 4T Show Band Bring Oldies to Area

The popular vocal and instrumental group played to an enthusiastic summer audience at Peterswood Park.

The oldies are alive and well. That reference is to the type of music played by the Four Townsmen and the 4T Show Band, which brought its energetic show to Peterswood Park on Wednesday. As for the guys in the group … well, some of them have been performing since the truly early days of rock ’n’ roll. But that doesn’t seem to be slowing them any. Part of Peters Township’s summer concert series, Wednesday’s gig brought hundreds of fans to the amphitheater at Peterswood Park, where they enjoyed a couple of sets of favorites from decades past, often singing along to the renditons of instantly recognizable Top 40 hits. Two of the singers, Lou Gadani and Pete Kouklakis, are original members of the Four Townsmen vocal group that formed in …

Mighty Parade March Red Hot, Heartfelt

Peters Township staff, students, parents, neighbors and veterans participated Monday in the annual Memorial Day festivities.

Peters Township community members arrived bright and early to Peters Township Middle School for the start of the annual red, white and blue festivities.  Township staff, students, parents, neighbors and veterans gathered to march in—and watch—the parade, which progressed down East McMurray Road and concluded in the VFW Post 764 parking lot on Valley Brook Road.  Peters Township police escorted the parade participants. A sea of red and white led the route—including the VFW Post 764 Color Guard, the American Legion Post 944 Color Guard and the Mighty Indian Marching Band.  A 20-year veteran, band director Milt Barney served in the Air Force and said his father fought in WWII.  Two cars carried the main speaker and clergy of the soon-to-…

The event, benefitting the district’s fine art and music programs, gives students an opportunity to showcase their talents, and mingle with friends and families in an effort to celebrate their accomplishments and each other. “This event has students’ work from all grades represented,” said Donna Fox, orchestra teacher, musical director, music department facilitator and event co-coordinator. The event will be held Friday, May 11, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday, May 12, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Peters Township High School—with a special concert at …

Letter to the Editor: 'Pride and Excellence' Not Earned in One Day

Peters Township resident Michael Benya shares his thoughts following the reappointment of band director Milt Barney and his assistants, and his love for the PT music program.

Earlier this week, we saw the Peters Township School Board reappoint the Peters Township High School marching band director and his assistants, after a week’s delay to “iron out some concerns or issues." As a past music booster president and co-creator (with my wife, Mary) of the Spaghetti Dinner, my time and vested interest runs deep with the PTHS Music Department, and the music students, parents, teachers and administrators.   The PTHS Fine Arts and Music Department has a strong legacy of excellence, creativity and willingness to try new things on a higher level. The teachers and administrators also give back to the community by being involved in events, such as last fall’s Rally for America or having the Air Force Jazz Band here this …
