The annual Twilight Trail Walk, welcoming patrons and pups, started nine years ago. Since then, it's grown significantly.
In its 9th year, the Twilight Trail Walk attracted Peters Township residents in droves to participate in a chief effort to maintain the staple passageway. For a $7 donation, night walkers—including dogs—trekked from Farmhouse Coffee to St. Petersburg Center (or vice versa) along the Montour Trail, which was lit beautifully with luminarias. Parents and children received a glow stick/necklace, a raffle ticket, a drink and Eat’n Park cookie ticket, and dog treats were provided for the pups. Other items, such as Blinkies, popcorn and SnoCones were for sale—Peters students Morgan Everson and Korie Roberts served up the icy treats. Bebout Road, near Valley Brook Road, is set to close again beginning Feb. 7. The closure will continue for several months while the Arrowhead Trail bridge is constructed. The road was first closed in the fall while the concrete trail overpass was demolished. The township told residents the closures would take place in late February, however steel for the project is being delivered sooner than planned, according to the township. The township is preparing signs, and detours (Justabout and Thomas roads) will be posted. Businesses will remain open on Valley Brook Road during the road closure. Demolition will cause road closures for three weeks.
The trail overpass at Bebout and Valley Brook roads in Peters will begin demolition Monday, Oct. 24, causing road closures for three weeks, according to township Manager Michael Silvestri. There may be some geotechnical exploration on the trail to do next week, he said. Until early November, Silvestri is urging residents to follow posted signs and detours—Justabout Road to Thomas Road. Montour Trail Council volunteers will also be marking the detour at nearly every turn with directional arrows for trail users’ convenience, its newsletter states. One set of closures at Bebout was to demolish the 1913 Montour Railroad Bridge. There was no demolition phase at Clifton Road.   more ›
