Animal Friends Goes on Life-Saving Mission

More than 50 animals were rescued from being euthanized and went up for adoption Monday.

Animal Friends continued a 15-year New Year's Eve tradition this weekend as staff members and volunteers traveled around the area rescuing animals that otherwise would be euthanized by the end of the year. The New Year's Rescue involved transferring animals from animal control facilities and other shelters to the Animal Friends shelter in Ohio Township, where the animals receive appropriate care. The volunteers saved animals from shelters around Allegheny, Greene, Washington and Westmorland counties. Each rescued animal was vaccinated, bathed, groomed, evaluated medically and behaviorally, and spayed or neutered. All Six Steelers Super Bowl Trophies on Display at Carnegie Science Center

Photos are allowed, but admission must be purchased first.

Through Jan. 1, the Carnegie Science Center in Pittsburgh's Manchester neighborhood (North Side) will display all six Super Bowl trophies won by the Pittsburgh Steelers. The display will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on New Year's Eve and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on New Year's Day. Fans are encouraged to pose with the trophies and to take pictures. However, the opportunity to view the display only comes to those who have purchased a general admission pass to the science center, which costs $17.95 per adult and $11.95 per child (aged 3 to 12 years). Children aged 2 and younger may enter for free. Visitor parking at the Carnegie Science Center is $5 per vehicle for non-members and $3 per vehicle for members.

Recipes: New Year's Eve Party Cocktails

Clique Vodka returned to Pittsburgh Today Live Thursday to share custom cocktail recipes—the Black & Gold, One Marvelous Mimosa and a Spiced Cosmo.

Last month, Clique Vodka provided Patch readers with holiday cocktail recipes. This week, it's all about New Year's Eve. Here are the recipes they shared on KDKA's Pittsburgh Today Live on Thursday:  Black & Gold 1 ¼ oz Clique Vodka ½ oz Chai tea syrup* 4 oz lemonade Pour Clique Vodka into glass over ice and add lemonade. Slowly add chai syrup so it collects at the bottom of the glass, creating a layered effect. One Marvelous Mimosa 1 oz Clique Vodka 1 ½ oz freshly squeezed orange juice 3 ½ oz sparkling wine Chill the Clique Vodka in a cocktail tin with ice and strain into a flute glass.
