North Strabane police also charged Robert Cole, 26, with loitering and prowling at night, public drunkenness and disorderly conduct, online court records indicate. He was arraigned early Wednesday by district Judge David Mark, who remanded him to the Washington County Jail on $25,000. He remained an inmate there as on Thursday night. According to the Observer-Reporter, Cole allegedly told residents at the home that he was being chased by a gun. Unsolved Cases: Brenda Lee Ritter Raped, Strangled in South Strabane

Ritter was the fourth young woman killed in seven months in Washington County in 1976-77.

The rape and strangulation death of Brenda Lee Ritter, 18, of North Strabane Township on May 19, 1977 is a case that still haunts police. Her death occurred as the fourth in a series of slayings of young women in Washington County. The murders of Deborah Capiola, Mary Irene Gency and Susan Rush left county residents on edge. The death of Barbara Lewis in Penn Hills within the same time frame left investigators wondering if her strangulation death was at the hands of the same killer. According to a Sept. 28, 2003 story in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Brenda left her boyfriend's home in Chartiers Township about 10:10 p.m. May 18, 1977 during a raging thunderstorm. Her boyfriend, Larry Bonazza, and his mother made sure the doors of Brenda's …

North Strabane Recommends Fire Services Study with Peters

North Strabane and Peters Township leaders are expected to approve the study next week.

Tremendous growth in North Strabane Township has sparked interest in a joint effort with Peters Township for firefighting.  North Strabane's board of supervisors Tuesday discussed approving a study to determine whether joining forces would be the best course of action for the future. Township Manager Frank Siffrinn told the board that a joint committee between the two townships narrowed the search for a firm to conduct the study. It recommended the bid go to Public Safety Solutions, Inc. of Chester, MD.  North Strabane fire Chief Mark Grimm said the fire department is a hybrid of paid firefighters supplemented by volunteers.  Grimm said explosive growth in North Strabane is a double-edged sword.  "With the economy today with families …
