Peters Patch Celebrates Two-Year Anniversary

A letter from the editors.

Dear Peters Patch Friends, Can you believe it’s been two years already? Yep, today marks Peters Patch’s two-year anniversary (but hey, time flies when you’re having fun). This was the first of 14 Patch sites to launch in western Pennsylvania and whether we were covering the opening of a business, the crime beat, the progress of a proposed crematorium, or the township’s plans for future development, we made sure Patch was part of the equation. And we want you to know that in the coming years we will continue to be not only a source of news and information—but also a part of the community, a place where residents can go to blog, post announcements, events and more. It’s been great getting to know everyone so far—and we can’t wait to make …

Signing Off One Last Time

Local Editor Andrea Bosco shares some bittersweet news.

Author J.M. Barrie once said: “Never say goodbye because goodbye means going away and going away means forgetting.” So I decided I’m not going to say goodbye, but rather “until next time.” After nearly two years and almost 3,000 published articles, today is my last day at Patch. This move is certainly bittersweet for me to announce, as there has been so much history made in just two quick and busy years. On Oct. 11, 2010, I began a journey on the forefront of modern journalism when I was offered the opportunity to launch the first Patch news site in western Pennsylvania at age 22. I had recently moved home from Florida, following a post-grad internship, to live with my parents in Peters Township. Days later, I received a package that was …

Gallery: Peters Community Day Wrap-Up

Weather was hot, kids were happy, families were together and local businesses were representing!

The 34th annual Peters Township Community Day was quite a success. The day started with a chilly, overcast sky and quickly turned to hot, hot, hot!  For Patch, the day was extremely enjoyable. We received such positive feedback about our site and our service to the community. It was wonderful seeing new faces and reconnecting with familiar.  We passed out Patch T-shirts and pairs of Patch sunglasses (and magnets, pens, bubbles and tattoos), which were a hit with PT kids (as you can see above).  We enjoyed visiting nearby booths and mingling with owner Gary McAfoose at Sign-A-Rama (a new business in McMurray), Peters Township Fire Department firefighters and McMurray Rotary Club members—among many others. In total, there were 173 vendors at…

I came by, but a man and woman were packing up, taking down the tent. Sorry, I missed your booth -- hoping to meet some of those behind the names.   more ›

Patch Scores Highest Traffic and Revenue in its History

May was the platform’s most successful month to date, with nearly 12 million users and record-breaking revenue.

Editor's Note: Peters Patch is part of a larger Patch network that serves as the eyes and ears for what is happening at the grassroots level across the country in more than 850 communities in 23 states plus Washington, D.C. The company launched in 2009; Peters Patch went online in November 2010. We have grown rapidly and people often ask how we're doing, so I thought I'd share our company's good news that was announced yesterday (Monday). Patch—AOL’s platform of local news, information and engagement sites— announced Monday that May of 2012 was its most successful traffic and revenue period in the company’s history.  Patch served a record 11.7 million users in May (comScore), representing a 14 percent increase over April (10.3 million …
