Get Out: Light Up Night, Breakfast(s), Free Concert

From Light Up Night to a free concert, here are 10 events not to miss this weekend!

1. Light Up Night Weekend Where/When: Downtown Pittsburgh, 5 to 10 p.m. on Friday and noon to 10 p.m. on Saturday Why Go?: The 51st Duquesne Light Light Up Night will kick off this Friday in Point State Park with a Santa Spectacular! The evening will be capped off by lighting of the Legendary 80′ Duquesne Light Tree, followed by the Macy’s Fireworks to Music Finale! Stroll through the city side of Point State Park after 5 p.m. and enjoy treats and activities for kids of all ages! Saturday night will begin with concerts in Market Square beginning at noon. Other activities include a skating performance at the Rink at PPG, pictures with Sugar Plum Fairies at 5th Ave. and a horse drawn candlelight carriage parade. Click here for a full …

Cheerleader Car Wash Raises Cold Cash on a Hot Day

Peters Township High School cheerleaders raise money with a car wash.

It was a sunny summer day when the Peters Township High School cheerleaders grabbed some buckets and sponges and opened a car wash, right next to the Bruster’s on Valley Brook Road. The girls, in their cheerleading outfits, hoisted banners above their heads at the crossroads of Valley Brook and East McMurray Road, to convince motorists to stop by for a car wash. They waved and smiled at each car passing by. A patron getting his car washed also received a freshly squeezed glass of lemonade, as sweet and sunny as the girl’s disposition at the event. The fundraiser is one of several the cheerleaders will hold this year. They are also taking donations for corporate sponsorship. Sponsors are encouraged to join the PTHS Cheerleading Booster Club…
