These culinary trips around the world will be complimented by other library resources like our Mango Languages program, as well as travel books and DVDs for our patrons to learn about each country a little more extensively if they like.” Before …

Peters Township Public Library committee Chairman Harry Verlato reported that the event made more than $41,000, the highest total earned in its history. The food selection featured a record 26 vendors that donated their signature dishes and servers to benefit the library. “We even had to turn a few away this year because we were out of room,” said Margaret Verlato, library board member and committee vice chairwoman. The money will help the library maintain its high standard of service and programs for the community despite several years of state funding cuts. “The committee and board set their …

Peters Township Public Library exercises both mind and muscles with “Listen While You Walk" program, launched Thursday.

Thursday morning, Peters Township Public Library director Pier Lee and reference librarian Margaret Deitzer put on their tennis shoes and met with a group of avid readers for a brisk 30-minute walk on the Arrowhead Trail. The library provided the hikers with "Playaways," a small, easy-to-use device with a built-in tape that can be listened to while walking or jogging. "I thought a ‘Listen While You Walk’ program would be a good way to introduce our new collection of 'Playaways' to our patrons,” Lee said. “In (China) everyone cares about the mind. I came to America and everyone cares about the body and athletics. I thought (this program) was a great way to combine both the body and the mind.” The walkers, 14 female library patrons, selected…
