Four Pittsburgh-area dancers showcased their talents on national television earlier this week. During Tuesday evening's finale of Abby's Ultimate Dance Competition on Lifetime TV, Upper St. Clair native Taylor Ackerman—along with dancers Miranda Maleski, John Fiumara and Jesse Johnson—performed a routine to Blues Saraceno's "If You Believe." The dancers were featured as alumni from the Abby Lee Dance Company, the newly-famed Penn Hills dance studio featured on Lifetime's show, Dance Moms. Owner Abby Lee Miller went on to be a judge on Abby's Ultimate Dance Competition, a show where young dancers compete for $100,000 and a scholarship to the Joffrey School of Ballet in New York. The missing man was from Waynesburg but worked on a river boat owned by Tri-River Fleeting in Pittsburgh.
Robert Elmer Allison of Waynesburg, Greene County, worked on a river boat owned by Tri-River Fleeting, which is currently listed on West Carson Street in Pittsburgh. Allison reportedly left work on Dec. 21, 1994 and was headed for a bar in the west end of Pittsburgh. All of this belongings were found on the boat and he has not been seen since. Sources that list his disappearance say he was last seen "leaving Tri-River Fleeting in Bethel Park near Pittsburgh" but it is questionable as to why a river business is listed in Bethel Park. He was 42 years old at the time of his disappearance. Since Patch first reported that Whole Foods signed a lease for a location in Upper St. Clair in the fall of 2015, many readers asked why it would take nearly three years for the natural and organic food store to open. Patch did some digging and this is what we found out. First of all, it typically takes one year to get through the planning process in Upper St. Clair. In one of his final appearances of the presidential campaign, Republican nominee Mitt Romney landed this afternoon in Moon Township, exiting a plane at the Atlantic Aviation hangar before leaving in a motorcade. The stop was brief—Romney did not speak before stepping into an SUV motorcade of five vehicles. After walking out of his plane, he waved to a crowd of cheering supporters packed outside of the runway gate. Romney campaign spokesman Bradley White said the GOP candidate would be traveling in the region this afternoon, but he said the schedule was kept private. The Pennsylvania Game Commission said coyotes have adapted well to suburban developments, such as Peters Township.
The death of a West View family's pet husky, possibly by a wild coyote earlier this week, shouldn't come as a surprise, according to the Pennsylvania Game Commission. "Coyotes have been spotted in every municipality of Pennsylvania from Erie to Philadelphia," said Jerry Feaser, Press Secretary for the Pennsylvania Game Commission. "There was even one seen within the city of Pittsburgh recently." Feaser said the coyotes, like other wild animals, use the corridors created by rivers and streams to travel into populated areas. "They're scavengers," said Feaser. "They feed on food left out in the trash or on the abundant small prey population such as squirrels, rabbits, and groundhogs." In addition to several roads and ramps, the inbound Squirrel Hill tunnel will be closed all weekend long.
PennDOT is working hard to finish up several key construction projects before the weather turns nasty. There are six key projects going on this weekend, including a few which will continue for weeks to come. The one with the biggest impact is the closing of the inbound Squirrel Hill Tunnels Friday night through Monday morning.
