To all, My name is Grant Shiring and I am the Land Use Planner for Peters Township. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and ideas. The Steering Committee and Township’s intent is to obtain community input early and often in the planning process. Consultants Reveal Residents' Vision for Peters

The township is in the process of creating its comprehensive plan.

The three-day workshop to plan Peters Township's future culminated Thursday night as consultants revealed results to a standing-room-only crowd. The number one issue among participants? Connectivity. From vehicular, to pedestrian, almost every resident who took part in the township's comprehensive planning process this week said connectivity needs to improve in Peters. The second message participants sent to planners—more housing options are needed. There is a big dip in 20-34 year olds in Peters Township due to the high price of homes. There are also retirees who wish to stay in the township, but want smaller properties and/or homes.  Third on the request list—preserving the township's rural character and its farms. And fourth—improving …

Planning staff did a great job for the first two days of the workshop. The consultants fell short on delivering the findings as advertised for that evening event. They had no real answers to any questions. Our staff and steering committee members need to hold their feet to the fire and try to get a better effort out of them for the dollars spent. They have done this before and knowing they …   more ›

Mapping Our Future: Message to Peters Township

Apartments? Condos? More of the same? Residents have a chance this week to decide what kind of development should come to Peters Township.

This message was submitted to Peters Patch to share with the Peters Township residents. Anyone over the age of 40 can probably recall neighborhoods, commercial corridors, even entire communities that were once thriving examples of economic and social success, but are now tired shells of their former selves.  Competing locations may have lured residents or customers to newer, better, shinier opportunities. Infrastructure has been neglected. Turnover and vacancy rates tarnish the luster of the past. Such conditions remind us that future is forever, but prosperity is often relatively short-term. Downtowns are a good example. Up until the 1960s, downtown was the commercial and social nucleus of virtually every metropolitan region. Retailing …

Jet: Wake up !!! the only way for these large tracts to remain open is for you to buy one and donate it to the twp. We would all appreciate that. Since thats not going to happen we need to encourage gas drilling so that these owners get more money than any developer can steal it for. Then it will remain for you and everyone else that wont spend a penny to enjoy. Now lets get to the real issue …   more ›

Peters Township Officials to Examine Traffic, Lack of Housing Options

A 'Plan Peters' open house was held for residents Wednesday night.

Peters Township officials and consultants were on hand at the high school Wednesday night to introduce the public to the comprehensive plan that is underway. The township hired LSL Planning, Inc. to come up with a 10-year plan for land use. After three months of interviews, focus groups and the examination of more than 800 resident surveys, consultants have determined that the following are some main points of concern: Tina Cramer, a 14-year resident, attended Wednesday night's open house. "I think it's a good idea. I think more people should actually come out," she said. Cramer's main concern is the improvement of Route 19. "There is a huge amount of congestion that has gotten worse over my 14 years," she said. "Especially at Donaldson's …

Ms. Stinelli, Ms. Wilk, and Kathy, Thank you for your comments. You have each brought up some good points and valid concerns regarding development and its effects on our schools, "rural character" and the township's transportation network. These are the exact type of conversations that need to occur during the comprehensive planning process. If you would like to discuss the items further, I would…   more ›
