UPDATE: Reported Venetia Shooting a Hoax

Police from Peters, North Strabane and Cecil townships and state police had reportedly been called to the scene.

Editor's Note: This story was updated at 4:30 p.m. to reflect new information. The Observer-Reporter originally reported that police were surrounding a home on Justabout Road in Peters Township. Police from Peters, North Strabane and Cecil townships and state police were reportedy at the scene, and some of the officers are armed with assault rifles, according to the report.  But the Peters Township Fire Department posted on its Facebook page Wednesday afternoon that the report of a shooting was a "hoax." Peters police told the Observer-Reporter that when the homeowner arrived, he told officers tat a female relative left him a voicemail that she was going to make such a call in order to cause the family inconvenience. Police: 75-Year-Old Woman Pulls Gun on Officer, Standoff Ensues

Bethel Park police responded to a dispute the woman was having with a neighbor Monday night.

A 75-year-old woman in Bethel Park was involuntarily committed to a hospital this morning after police said she pulled a gun on an officer Monday night and barricaded herself in her home. Chief John Mackey of the Bethel Park police department said an officer was first called to the 6100 block of Collie Drive at 9:30 p.m. on Monday. Neighbors accused Rhoda Hughes of having some "bright spotlights" shining on their house. When the officer was speaking to Hughes, he said she pulled a gun on him. As other officers arrived, Hughes barricaded herself inside her home through the night. After the standoff ended, police found a unloaded gun inside the home. It's not clear if the gun was loaded or not when it was allegedly pulled on the officer. …
