There's no mail today, and the PT municipal building is closed.
Happy Thanksgiving from Peters Patch, friends! We wanted to let you know that there is no mail, and that most local, state and federal offices are closed—including Peters Township. That also means that the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation will close its driver license and photo centers—including its full-service center in Harrisburg—will be closed Thursday and Friday for the Thanksgiving holiday. Customers, though, may still obtain a variety of driver and vehicle products and services online through PennDOT’s website here. Giant Eagle in Donaldson's Crossroads is open until 4 p.m. Thursday; the pharmacy closes at 1 p.m.

As you celebrate the Thanksgiving Day holiday this year, consider the the following. The next time you do so, the 2012 presidential election campaign will have just ended. Northland Cranberry Blackberry Juice Frozen Blackberries Pour Clique Vodka and cranberry blackberry juice into short glass over ice and stir. Garnish with a few frozen blackberries. Cranberry Nut Bread What You Need: 2 cups all purpose flour 1 cup sugar 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. baking soda 2 tbsp. shortening or softened butter Grated peel from one orange 3/4 cup orange juice (juice the orange from above and add extra orange juice from a carton if needed) 1 well-beaten egg 1 1/2 cups fresh or frozen cranberries, coarse chopped in food processor 1/2 cups chopped nuts (I use pecans) What You Do: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a bowl, mix together all the dry ingredients. Mix in shortening or butter. Grate the orange into the dry mixture. Ingredients: 2 (10 ounce) packages frozen corn kernels, thawed (I use more) Directions: In a skillet over medium heat, combine the corn, cream, salt, sugar, pepper and butter. Whisk together the milk and flour, and stir into the corn mixture. Cook stirring over medium heat until the mixture is thickened, and corn is cooked through. Remove from heat, and stir in the Parmesan cheese until melted. Serve hot. Enjoy! -Glenn Walther

Over the past seven years, “Our Hearts to Your Soles,” a nonprofit group started by Matt Conti and his father, Allegheny General Hospital orthopaedic surgeon Stephen Conti, MD, has provided footwear and medical care to approximately 24,000 of the Pittsburgh area’s homeless and indigent people.
