'KenKarta' Author and Daughters Sign Book Copies to Benefit Library

Fans poured into the library Friday to explore Alison Kartevold’s fantasy world, “KenKarta: Battle of the Onoxmon.”

Alison Kartevold and her daughters, Veronica and Sophia, co-created the fantasy epic, "KenKarta: Battle of the Onoxmon." The book made its national debut at Peters Township Public Library on Friday. Fantasy fans braved torrential rains to meet Kartevold and her young co-creators at the book launch party. Les Polinko, the book’s illustrator, was also in attendance. “It’s a magical read. It was a pleasure to illustrate,” Polinko explained. “(Kartevold's) creatures are one of a kind.” Kartevold was surrounded by family and friends for the event. Her neighbor, Christi DeWitt, and Barb Wylie, a friend from Peters Creek Presbyterian …

Local author Alison Kartevold shares her opinions on how writing can help you escape the stress and monotony of your daily routine, as well as help you create a legacy for your children. The tale of how Kartevold’s children helped her parent “KenKarta” is a truly exceptional one, reminiscent of how oral traditions propagated prior to the advent of the printing press…

Princesses, Hobyahs, Lord Leamoldae—Oh My!

Local author's newly-published fantasy adventure book already intriguing young students' minds.

Peters resident and author Alison Kartevold dedicates her book, "KenKarta: Battle of the Onoxmon," to her "angel babies with eyes of blue"—her daughters, Veronica and Sophia, who were instrumental in creating the world where the book takes place.  It all started five years ago, with no intention of publication. One night Kartevold’s eldest daughter had a bad dream and asked her to tell her a story. It was 2 a.m. and Kartevold was half asleep, she said. She began to improvise. She had incorporated activities they did during a family trip to Idaho from which they’d just returned. A story of riding horses turned into fairies and purple dragons—the book’s evolution and inscription had begun. The story of "KenKarta" evolved through dinner-table…
