Help Dori Lose Weight, Find New Home

The Pembroke Welsh Corgi is available for adoption.

Dori is a 6 year old, 43-pound Pembroke Welsh Corgi looking for a new home. Her owners surrendered her to the Animal Rescue League because she was chasing the cats and herding them around the house. They acquired her from relatives who were leaving her outside with no shelter or water. And they were feeding her people food for the past five years—and that's why she weights 43 pounds and not 25. Dori is on a special diet now, and she has already lost 10 pounds. She likes to pretend she's a lapdog, even though she's still a little plump. She likes to play with other dogs, but she needs a no cat household. Dori is great with well-mannered children, though she might try to herd them by nipping at their heels. A New Trend: Own a Corgi

Queen Elizabeth II and her affinity for corgis makes the Diamond Jubilee a big event—for the Bugaile family, especially.

I must admit it’s pretty neat to watch the British with all their pomp and circumstance. Fact is, I’ve always had a fascination with everything the Brits do with flair. I have always liked the music of Sir Edward Elgar, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Gustav Holst and even Kenneth Alford, England’s answer to John Philip Sousa. Oh yes, and of course there were The Beatles, and what they did for music. To this day, I don’t think there are better patriotic songs that they sing in England such as “I Vow to Thee, My Country” and William Blake’s “Jerusalem,” a poem set to music by Hubert Parry, which is usually sung at Royal weddings, and at the conclusion of the BBC’s “Last Night of the Proms.” Maybe it’s because a friend of mine who likes to do …
