Traffic Calming Study Planned for Maple Lane

Peters Township plans to conduct a traffic calming study on Maple Lane after years of receiving complaints from area residents.

Township Manager Mike Silvestri said once the study is completed, TPD engineers will come forward with traffic calming options and the municipality will ask for feedback from residents. The proposals would then need to be approved by affected residents before the council signs off on the plan. That can’t come soon enough for Peters resident Jack Adams, whose backyard borders Maple …

Peters Township Allows St. Benedict to Display Fish Fry Signs

Peters Township officials and St. Benedict the Abbot have reached an agreement to allow the Catholic church to post several Lenten Fish Fry signs around the community.

Peters Township officials and St. Benedict the Abbot have reached an agreement to allow the Catholic church to post several Lenten Fish Fry signs around the community. The council agreed during its Monday night meeting to allow the church to put banner signs on the township’s two trail bridges, Friar Lane and at the corner of Route 19 and Valleybrook Road. Township officials had issued their concerns last month about St. Benedict’s plans to place as many as 10 Fish Fry signs around the community. Parishioners may also place small signs in their yards if they wish. Click here to find out what time St. Benedict is holding its Fish Fry each Friday!

No Charges Against McMurray Man Involved in Fatal Crash

Washington County District Attorney Gene Vittone said there was not enough evidence to substantiate the charges.

Charges won't be filed against a McMurray man involved in a crash that killed a Canonsburg teenager in 2010, Washington County District Attorney Gene Vittone confirmed Wednesday. Thomas B. McNary crashed his sport utility vehicle into a car July 17, 2010, in the area of West McMurray Road and state Route 19. The crash caused a chain-reaction collision injuring several people and killing 18-year-old Adah Porter, the Observer-Reporter indicated. "The evidence which we gathered which includes many interviews and medical records does not support the filing of criminal charges," Vittone said. "From what we have it appears that this tragic accident several years ago was the result of McNary's diabetic condition."
