Peters Township Parks and Recreation is looking for a group of friends who love to scare people!
Editor's Note: This story was updated on Thursday, Aug. 30. With Halloween just 65 days away, Peters Township Parks and Recreation has the planning under way for the annual Haunted Trail. Do you have a group of friends or belong to a group looking for community service hours? Or do you just love to scare people? There are opportunities available. The CRC needs storytellers, scene actors, concession stand volunteers, trail monitors, scene prop builders and designers. If you're interested, the first meeting will be held next Wednesday, Sept. 5, at 7 p.m. at the CRC. To RSVP, call 724-942-5000. The 13th annual Peters Fishing Derby is right around the corner! Traditionally held at Peters Lake Park, the derby is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 11. The event, hosted by the McMurray Rotary Club and Peters Township Community Recreation Center, is open to youngsters—boys and girls—in kindergarten through fifth grade. Last year, approximately 60 children were registered for the event prior to the big day, and even more signed up day-of. Awards are given for First Fish Caught, Most Fish Caught, Smallest Fish Caught and Largest Fish Caught. All participants will receive a door prize. Members of a newly formed committee convened Tuesday night at Peters Township Community Recreation Center for the first of many meetings focused on the future of PT. “This is just the tip of the iceberg,” said Planning Director Ed Zuk, regarding the initial meeting—part of a 14-month process. The United States Air Force Jazz Ensemble will perform in the Peters Township High School auditorium tonight at 7 p.m. The event is sponsored by Peters Township Character Counts. The night is also an effort to support our troops. The evening will commence a collection drive for deployed soldiers (mostly in Afghanistan). Donations for Operation Troop Appreciation will be accepted via collection box. Character Counts and Boy Scout Troop 1320 are working with OTA on the drive.
