Representatives from Susan F. Komen Pittsburgh will be on hand to help.
Susan G. Komen Pittsburgh representatives will be at South Hills Village this weekend to sign up people for the 2013 Race for the Cure. Registration and T-shirt pickup is available 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 28. In addition to South Hills Village, Komen staff and volunteers will also be at the Kohl's on Route 228 in Cranberry Township, Monroeville Mall, Ross Park Mall and The Mall at Robinson. If someone wants to register but misses their chance this weekend, registrations are also available at the University of Pittsburgh's Posvar Hall Galleria from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday, April 29. The Indiana, PA resident is the first chairperson from outside Allegheny County.
The Pittsburgh Affiliate of Susan G. Komen has named Kerri Colvin Ballas as the chair of the Pittsburgh 2013 Race for the Cure. A resident of Indiana, PA, Ballas is the first chairperson for the Pittsburgh Race hailing from outside of Allegheny County. This year’s race will take place on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 12, on Flagstaff Hill in Schenley Park, Oakland. A six-year breast cancer survivor, Ballas became involved with Komen in 2007 when she first ran the Pittsburgh Race with friends while she was undergoing chemotherapy. “I was hooked on hope and on raising money for Komen,” Ballas says. “Raising awareness and funds for Komen gave me the opportunity to fight back and help other women.” Now, Ballas and her team, Paint …

National Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a fitting time to let local runners and walkers know that discounted "Early Bird" registration is available through Dec. 31 for the 2013 Komen Pittsburgh Race for the Cure. The annual event, which will be headquartered on Flagstaff Hill at Schenley Park in Pittsburgh's Squirrel Hill South neighborhood next May 12 normally costs $30 (5,000-meter timed run) and $25 (untimed events) for non-breast-cancer-surviving adults. But "Early Birds" can knock $5 off of all registration fees. A full list of normal fees is available here. Indians shut out Moon to sweep season series.
Prior to Monday night’s game against Moon at the Airport Ice Arena, Peters Township varsity hockey head coach, Rick Tingle, wanted to be sure that his Indians didn’t take their game against the Tigers as seriously as they should. After all, the Indians pretty well controlled their earlier game at Iceoplex 10-0, but since then, Moon had won its last three contests, and had been on a roll, while the Indians had a two-week break. Turns out, Tingle had little to worry about, as the Indians rolled to a 5-0 shutout in their rematch, as goalie Brian Baker turned in stellar performance with 20 saves.
