Students and families in the 18th Congressional district, which includes Peters Township, are invited to attend U.S. Rep. Tim Murphy's annual Academy Information Day at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 13, at Chartiers Valley High School. Each year, Murphy (R-Upper St. Clair) nominates up to 10 outstanding high school students for open student slots at the nation's four military service academies: the United States Air Force Academy, United States Merchant Marine Academy, United States Military Academy and United States Naval Academy. U.S. congressmen and women are elected to public office by residents of the districts that they represent. But those districts' shapes and residents can change, as they did on Jan. 3, this year, in accordance with shifting demographics. The U.S. House's District 18 of Pennsylvania, for example, which is represented by Republican Tim Murphy, once included all or parts of several municipalities that it no longer encompasses. Baldwin Borough, Baldwin Township, Brentwood Borough, Crafton Borough, Dormont Borough, Green Tree Borough and Wilkins Township are examples of those. Winning artwork will be showcased in U.S. capitol.
U.S. Rep. Tim Murphy (R-Upper St. Clair) invites high school artists across the 18th Congressional district, including Peters Township, to participate in his annual Congressional Art Competition. World War II Veteran Private First Class Wayne Alderson of Canonsburg, who recently died, was recognized by the U.S. House of Representatives.
U.S. Tim Murphy (R-Upper St. Clair) Tuesday gave a statement on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives recognizing Private First Class Wayne Alderson of Canonsburg. The WWII hero died on Feb. 22. At 86, he had been awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, Silver Star, Bronze Star, and Purple Heart for his courageous actions during the Rhineland campaign of 1945. U.S. Rep. Tim Murphy (R-Upper St. Clair) had some of his constituents worried Tuesday after arriving at the Veterans’ Affairs Committee's investigative hearing on the outbreak of Legionnaires’ disease at the VA Hospital in Pittsburgh in a wheel chair. Murphy is recovering from a herniated disc. His doctors asked him to limit some of his movement through the week. He’s recovering well and is maintaining a full schedule, according to his spokesperson. According to a study by The Washington Times, U.S. Rep. Tim Murphy (R-Upper St. Clair) is the fifth worst boss on Capitol Hill. The Washington Times analyzed a decade of congressional pay records to find the offices with the highest turnover rates and it found that Murphy has a 42 percent average turnover rate, peaking at 64 percent in 2006. Three Peters Township members of the Civil Air Patrol’s Washington County Chapter received special congressional recognition from U.S. Rep. Timothy Murphy earlier this month, as well as awards from their squadron for their contributions to the community. The problem with trying to deal with the mental health issues are many.....there are privacy laws to protect an individual's health records......and until someone does something illegal...
