The food selection featured a record 26 vendors that donated their signature dishes and servers to benefit the library. “We even had to turn a few away this year because we were out of room,” said Margaret Verlato, library board member and committee vice chairwoman. The money will help the library maintain its high standard of service and programs for the community despite several years of state funding cuts. “The committee and board set their …

Summer Solstice is Official Tuesday

You may have been to the pool or had a family barbecue, but summer officially starts June 21.

Whether it’s the beach or a porch-view vacation, everyone is ducking out of work early to spend a little more time in the sun. It’s Pittsburgh. We have to take what we can get. The summer solstice reminds us, “If you haven’t started celebrating summer yet…get cracking!” Sources say the summer solstice is a Latin word which breaks down to sol (sun) and sistere (to stand still).
