More than 50 residents have signed a petition asking Peters Township Council to consider the installation of a dusk-to-dawn street light in their neighborhood.

While the petition asking for the light at Brookwood Road and Abbey Brook Lane was presented to council Monday, no action was taken.

However, council directed the township administration to contact property owners in the area to solicit opinions on the issue, according to Tom Gromek, assistant to the township manager.

"We are a connector street with vehicle traffic of 1,100 and 1,500 cars a day and a general lack of lighting in the area," the petition reads. "There is a curvature in both streets and our divided entry island blocks vision."

The petition went on to state that motorists who are unfamiliar with Abbey Brook incorrectly enter through the exit side, and that there had been several traffic accidents in the area.

"According to the township street light policy, areas with pedestrian traffic should be lit," the document indicated. "Neighbors, pet and bicyclists use the Montour Trail and enter/exit via the Brookwood and Abbey Brook intersection."
